Riverview, Florida's first settler, Benjamin Moody, arrived in 1842 and built the first home in the area. Moody, an ex-military officer took the lead role in the community as it grew.  He served on the Board of County Commissioners and helped in the founding of the first church and school.  The Alafia River, which is Indian for "River of Fire", quietly runs through this sleepy little town in Florida.  The Alafia River was so named by the Native Americans due the sparkling effect that the high level of phosphorus had on the river.  In the late 1800's citrus packing and shipping and mining became the primary industries in the region.  During the prohibition, the moonshine industry help the town survive the real estate rise and fall.  At the end of what is now known as Adamsville Rd., there was a tree stump that was hollowed out and storing whiskey for passersby to pay and old man in exchanged for jugs of moonshine.

According to the 2000 census, Riverview, Florida is the home to 12,035 residents.  Riverview is a small community, located on the Alafia River.  The Alafia provides an abundance of outdoor activities such as, paddling, fishing, boating, picnicking, or just taking in some of Florida's most breathtaking sunsets.  Held each year in December is the Annual Lighted Christmas Boat Parade.  Residents decorate their boats in the spirit of Christmas and parade through the glorious river that locals hold dear.
