Plant City, originally known as Ichepucksassa, named after the Indian Village that once called this area home, has survived a rich history. Dating back to the mid 1800's when the first settlers began populating the State, the postmaster acquired such confusion with the name that he re-named the town Cork, after his home town. Although Plant City was once largely a cotton producing community, it was not the agricultural industry that gave it its name.  In 1884, Henry Bradley Plant extended the railroad into Ichepucksassa and only a year later the town became incorporated and re-named in his honor.  Plant City changed its main crop to strawberries. With the mild subtropical climate, fertile soil and ability to transport the goods, it didn't take long for Plant City to become known as the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World.  Each year, during the winter, the residents in this area celebrate this transition at the Annual Strawberry Festival.  This festival provides some of the best pie and strawberry shortcake in the State of Florida and is rated among one of the top 30 festivals in the country.

Today, Plant City, Florida is the home to over 31,727 residents according to the numbers of 2006.  With its historic downtown district, specialty shops, restaurants and challenging golf courses, Plant City strives to preserve its past and welcome the new at the same time.  With its small town, ‘old Florida charm’ Plant City is prime for real estate opportunities.  Located only 24 miles from Tampa and 10 miles from Lakeland, Plant City offers country living with big city amenities.
